foodconsumer.org - Science Finally Reveals How You Can Actually REVERSE Aging

OK, ok, so this is a little sensationalized, but hey there’s also some meat to the story…Yes shorter telomeres do produce symptoms of accelerated aging and yes, if you can lengthen your telomeres you will be healthier and younger looking, so how to do that? Well this article suggests you boost your glutathione levels, by ingesting its precursors - ie protein, and they recommend whey protein to do that. As a milk lover, this tells me that what I’m already doing is healthy for me. Cool :)

Fish Oils May Slow Genetic Aging

Those who had the highest omega-3 fatty acid blood levels had the slowest rate of telomere shortening: 0.05 telomere-to-single copy ratio (95% CI 0.02 to 0.08, P<0.001). Telomeres are the protective caps at the end of chromosomes that reveal how biological stress ages a person.

Another reason to eat fish.

Link Between Inflammatory Disease and Premature Aging

“Based on our research, it appears that chronic inflammation of the gut causes Klotho to down-regulate—or ‘turn off’— contributing to premature-aging diseases such as osteopenia, osteoporosis and atherosclerosis, to name a few.”
Tumor Necrosis Factor and Interferon-gamma Down-regulate Klotho
“We can now theorize that if you have an inflammatory process going on, like IBD or rheumatoid arthritis, for example, you are likely to develop symptoms of premature aging,”

Another reason to take it seriously if you have an irritable bowel or RA…

BBC News - Survival of the fittest: exercise 'can fight ageing'

Researchers focused on telomeres, the protective caps on the chromosomes that keep a cell’s DNA stable but shorten with age.
They found telomeres shortened less quickly in key immune cells of athletes with a long history of endurance training.
In a separate study of young Swedish men, cardiovascular fitness has been linked to increased intelligence and higher educational achievement.

Childhood abuse 'accelerates ageing process' - Parenting - Relationships - Life - The Times of India

early data shows strong links between childhood stress and the accelerated shortening of telomeres.

Researchers have also found that telomeres shorten at a higher rate when exposed to toxins, such as radiation or cigarette smoke.

ScienceDirect - Cell Metabolism : Resveratrol Delays Age-Related Deterioration and Mimics Transcriptional Aspects of Dietary Restriction without Extending Life Span

Resveratrol doesn’t help so much with total lifespan; it just activates the stress response; which is helpful for warding off disease and various pre-mature deaths.

lamp2-, and other aging genes - thevillagesdailysun.com

One of the most notable advances occurred in 2008, when Cuervo’s research team blocked the aging process in mouse livers by stopping the accumulation of harmful proteins within cells of the liver. You read that right, she stopped aging. Cuervo achieved that miracle by adding a lysosomal membrane receptor, LAMP-2A, to older mice. Basically, LAMP-2A removes cellular waste, which preserves the integrity of the cell, which in turn improves the function of the organ. “The more cells age, the less efficient they become at clearing out toxins,” Cuervo said. According to Cuervo, LAMP-2A not only takes out the trash, it appears to rejuvenate the cell.

A Modest Proposal: How to Stop Aging Entirely | Aging | DISCOVER Magazine

I consider that if funding is sufficient we have a 50/50 chance of developing technology within about 25 to 30 years from now that will, under reasonable assumptions about the rate of subsequent improvements in that technology, allow us to stop people from dying of aging at any age—equivalent to the effect of today’s antiretrovirals against HIV. There are a few big caveats to that statement, though. The first is that it’s only a 50 percent chance. Any technological prediction as far in the future as 25 to 30 years is necessarily very speculative, and if you asked me how soon I thought we would have a 90 percent chance of defeating aging, I wouldn’t even be willing to bet on 100 years. But I think a 50 percent chance is well worth shooting for—don’t you? The second caveat is that aging won’t be totally defeated by the initial versions of this technology. We’ll have to carry on improving it at a reasonable rate in order to keep aging permanently at bay.

Female athlete sets new shot put record at age 100 - Yahoo! News
“The oldest female athlete at the World Masters Games in Sydney has broken a world record in the shot put — at the age of 100. All eyes were on Ruth Frith, from Brisbane, as she arrived for day two of the World Masters Games, hoping to win gold in the shot put and feeling pretty confident as she was the only competitor in the over-100s category. But her 4.07 metre (13 ft 4.2 in) throw on Sunday didn’t just win her gold, but also broke a world record. “As long as I didn’t foul I was going to win it,” Frith told Reuters Television. The great-grandmother is also a keen hammer and javelin thrower and believes other pensioners should follow her example. Frith trains five days a week, regularly lifting 35 kg (77 lb) weights. She doesn’t drink or smoke and she doesn’t eat vegetables either, claiming she hasn’t liked them since she was young.”
