First, according to the CIA World Fact Book, less than 10% of the combined populations of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia have internet access. Second, the literacy rate across these four countries averages approximately 68% of the adult population. Collectively, these penetration rates across the populations mentioned do not translate into the levels of protest seen in the streets of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia. Something more was at work. Both weather and the proceeding global financial crisis left these nations with a shortage of fundamental public resources. Unstable and sky-rocketing food prices were, in our opinion, the spark to a powder-keg situation already brewing in the region.
The foreign secretary has condemned Tehran’s “completely unacceptable” behaviour after British Special Forces seized a shipment of suspected Iranian arms intended for the Taliban. The 48 rockets are understood to have been intercepted in Nimruz Province, in southern Afghanistan, on 5 February.

Breaking wind is set to be made a crime in an African country. The government of Malawi plan to punish persistent offenders ‘who foul the air’ in a bid to ‘mould responsible and disciplined citizens.’ But locals fear that pinning responsibility on the crime will be difficult - and may lead to miscarriages of justice as ‘criminals’ attempt to blame others for their offence.

Men and women have been banned from shaking hands in a district of Somalia controlled by the Islamist group al-Shabab. Under the ban imposed in the southern town of Jowhar, men and women who are not related are also barred from walking together or chatting in public. … those who disobeyed the new rules would be punished according to Sharia law. The BBC’s Mohamed Moalimuu in Mogadishu says the penalty would probably be a public flogging.

Iraq War documents released by WikiLeaks show that U.S. forces frequently encountered weapons of mass destruction facilities and specialists. A former president is owed an apology.
some of the 392,000 Iraq War logs show that deadly liquid-sulfur mustard was bought undercover in Iraq by U.S. personnel in 2004. In Fallujah not long after, a chemical lab and a chemical cache were discovered.
Another time, artillery shells were found “leaking a black tarlike substance,” which eventually tested positive for mustard gas.
And only two years ago some 10 rounds of artillery shells were found to contain chemical agents, albeit in a state of disrepair. In early 2006, chemical weapons designed to cause paralysis were found, the origin of which was almost certainly Iran.

Dutch Trial Is Threat To Free Speech - IBD - Investors.com
The Dutch government charges Wilders with the Orwellian crime of “hate speech.” For this, Wilders could spend a year in prison. You don’t have to agree with Wilders or like what he says — we find some of his utterances repugnant — to see that this trial is bad for Western democracy. Wilders has been charged for saying things such as “I’ve had enough of Islam in the Netherlands; let not one more Muslim immigrate.”
Pretty scary.
